17 February 1972Mrs. Lola J. Fiscus, Whiting, Iowa passed away Monday January 31, 1972 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa of injuries suffered in a two-car accident December 14, 1971. Death came at the age of 74 years and 30 days.
She was born at Castana, Iowa on January 1, 1898, the daughter of Clinton and Jesse Waples Bennett and had lived in the Whiting area for the past 52 years. She lived in the Maple Landing area for a year prior to her marriage.
On December 20, 1919 she was united in marriage with Ivan Thomas Fiscus at the Congregational Church in Onawa. To this union one son and two daughters were born.She was a member of the Congregational Church a longtime member of the Willing Workers Club and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Whiting.
Survivors are one son, Lloyd of Whiting; 2 daughters, Mrs. David (Ruth) Lynn of SIoux City, Iowa and Mrs. Evelyn Alexander of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Eva) Johnson of Port Townsend, Wash. and Mrs. Orville (Isabell) Comer, Sioux City; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Services were held at the First Congregational Church, Whiting on Wednesday, February 2, 1972 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Thomas Guenther officiating. Gilbert Smith gave comfort in song accompanied by Mrs. Carl Linden.
Casket bearers were Gilbert Jenskins, Steven Seward, Donald Baker, Glen Funkhouser, Donnie Anderson and Edgar Morton.Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery near Whiting. The Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangement.
