Glenn Wilfred Ernst, a longtime resident of the Sloan area, passed Thursday, January 20, 1972 at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa following a long illness.

He was born at Sloan on July 7, 1897, the son of Andrew and Carrie Hunter Ernst, He chose farmingas his vocation and had lived in the Sloan area most of his life.

On May 20, 1936, he was united in marriage to LaViece Hall at Onawa, Iowa.

Survivors are his wife, LaViece of Sloan; one brother, Leslie Ernst also of SLoan; one sister, Mrs. Herman (Mildred) Thacker of South Sioux City, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews and many friends.

A prayer service was held at the Sloan Chapel on Sunday evening with Father R.P. Weiling officiating.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 24, 1972 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix with Father Weiling officiating. Bearers were James Ernst, Jerry Ernst, Ray Ernst, Marvin Ernst, Glen Yearous and Jerold Thacker.

Interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home of Whiting and Sloan.
