Effie Belle Wallace the daughter of Isaac and Lydia Howland Strait was born September 27, 1899, at Ute, Iowa. As a girl she lived in the Ute Community until she was married to Alfred Wallace on July 22, 1919 at Onawa, Iowa. They then made their home at Peterson, Iowa for 1-year before returning to the farm in the Ute and Mapleton vacinity. It was in 1952 when they went to live at Onawa. Due to the death of her husband in 1961, she then went to Ida Grove to make her home with her son James. She departed this life in her sleep at her home at the age of 72 years 4 months and 17 days, on February 16, 1972.
Survivors include 3 sons; James of Ida Grove, Ia. Elden at Delmar, Iowa and Robert of Omaha, Nebraska, 13 grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren, 3 sisters; Mrs. Mamie Klave and Mrs. Alice Knutson both of Sioux City, Iowa and Ruth Edwards of Saratoga, Wyoming. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 18th at 1:30 p.m. at the Walter Chapel at Ute, Iowa. Words of comfort were by John Olson. Casketbearers were Alfred Petersen, John Gust, Fred Soukup, Francis Thompson, Charles Swanson and Herbert Koeppen. Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa under the direction of Walter Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
