SLOAN, Iowa -- Gertrude R. (Clark) Kenney, 85, of Sloan was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Gertrude was born Aug. 20, 1922, on a farm outside of Sloan, Iowa, the second daughter of Patrick and Winnefred (Smith) Clark. She preferred to be known as Gert. She was raised in the Sloan area and graduated from Sloan High School in 1940. She continued her education at St. Joseph (Hospital) School of Nursing in Sioux City, and received a registered nurse's degree in September 1943.
Gert married Mack H. Kenney on Dec. 28, 1943, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux City. The couple lived in Sloan the first few years of their marriage and then moved to a farm southwest of Sloan in 1948, where she lived for 57 years. In the spring of 2005, Gert moved to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa, to be with Mack. Mack passed away on Dec. 24, 2006.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix and was an active member of the Tabernacle Society. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, tending to her flower gardens and anything that involved the grandchildren.

Survivors include two children, Tony (Lynn) Kenney of Whiting and Jeanne (Jason) Genovese of St. Paul, Minn.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Rae) Clark of Sioux City; and a sister, Patricia (Jim) Settlemire of Lima, Ohio.

In addition to her husband, Mack, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Mary Ellen (Clark) Ring.

Memorials may be directed to the Queen of Peace in Sioux City.

A loving and caring grandma, mother and friend, she is reunited in death with Mack for eternity.
