ONAWA, Iowa -- Darrell DeWayne Mesenbrink, 51, of Onawa died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at his residence, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with Pastor Don Collison officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Jordan Cemetery at Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Darrell DeWayne Mesenbrink was born June 4, 1955, at Onawa, the son of DeWayne and Phyllis (Rowland) Mesenbrink. He was raised in Onawa and attended West Monona High School.
He married Denise Priske on June 15, 1974, at Eldora, Iowa. The couple made their home at Onawa, where they raised their two daughters, Brandi and Krystal. Darrell was a heavy equipment operator most of his life, with the majority of the time with Negus and Sons, until illness forced his retirement. He also owned and operated Denise's Family Dining in Onawa from 1989 to 1996.

Darrell was an avid motorcyclist and loved riding and traveling on his Harley.

Survivors include his wife, Denise of Onawa; two daughters, Brandi and her husband, Michael Youngkin of Lansing, Mich. and Krystal Mesenbrink of Iowa City, Iowa; his parents, DeWayne and Phyllis Mesenbrink of Onawa; three sisters, Barb and her husband, Dick Blake of Mapleton, Iowa, Debbie Neubaum of Mapleton and Joann and her husband, Mitch Gibler of Onawa; three brothers and their wives, Dennis and Carol of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kevin and Carlann of Onawa and Jack and Carla of Mapleton; his father and mother-in-law, Bernard and June Priske of Eldora, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Hank and Karen Mason.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jerry Neubaum.
