SOLDIER, Iowa -- Roger Barnett, 43, of Soldier died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, near Soldier.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. today at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, with Monsignor Mark Duchaine officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Roger Raymond Barnett was born Oct. 4, 1963, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Kent and Frances (Pithan) Barnett. He grew up in the Ute and Schleswig, Iowa, area and graduated from Schleswig High School in 1982. He worked at Farmland in Denison, Iowa, for a few years. He furthered his education by attending Western Iowa Tech Community College for one year and earning a hog buying degree.
He married Wendi Thul on Aug. 27, 1988. He worked at American Protein in Denison, Iowa, for eight years while living in Schleswig. He later moved to a farm outside of Charter Oak, Iowa, where he farmed. He then moved to Denison, where he was self-employed. Later, he moved to Soldier and was employed at New Fabrication in Sioux City.

He and his son, Justin, both enjoyed going to farm sales, buying tractors, hunting and playing cards together.

Survivors include his son, Justin Barnett of Denison, Iowa; his father, Kent Barnett of Soldier; his mother, Frances Barnett of Ute, Iowa; three brothers, Randy Barnett and his wife, April of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and twin brothers, Ron Barnett of Ute, Iowa, and Rick Barnett and his wife, Deb of Schleswig; a sister, Tana Barnett of Mapleton, Iowa; and his maternal grandmother, Margie Pithan of Ute.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Rodney Barnett; his paternal grandparents, Amos and Helen Barnett; and maternal grandfather, Ray Pithan.
