MAPLETON, Iowa -- Gary Brouillette, 58, of Mapleton died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at his residence following a brief battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, Iowa, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Carlson-Frum post 336 of Danbury. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all at the church. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton.

Gary Joseph Brouillette was born May 14, 1948, in Sioux City, the son of Marvin and Phyllis (Moser) Brouillette. He lived with his family in Merrill, Iowa and attended school there. At the age of 10, his father died. His mother married Loren Brenner two years later and the family moved to Danbury. He graduated from Danbury Catholic High School with the class of 1966. He served his country with the U.S. Army Reserves, 182nd Airborne Division in 1969, in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to his life long work in farming.
On June 3, 1972, he was united in marriage to Pat Schapmann in Tilden, Neb. The couple had three daughters.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Carlson-Frum Post 336. He enjoyed sports, playing cards, vacations and time spent with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Pat; three daughters and their husbands, Tara and Jamie Koob of Sergeant Bluff, Traci and Nate Fichter of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Tonya and Cory Heiman of Omaha; five grandchildren, Haley, Ellie, Karley and Kalyn Koob and Blake Heiman; two brothers and their wives, Doug and Carma Brouillette of Mapleton and Tom and Gayleen Brouillette of Danbury; three sisters, Kay Brouillette of Omaha, Mary and her husband, Dave Wittry and Lisa and her husband, Russ Schelle, all of Breda, Iowa; his parents-in-law, Andrew and Ethel Schapmann of Tilden, Neb.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ray and Cathy Schapmann of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Mary and her husband, Bob Rautenberg of Tilden, Neb., and Andrea Hovelsrud of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Brouillette and Loren and Phyllis Brenner; and a brother, James Brouillette.
