ONAWA, Iowa -- Virginia Beck, 85, of Onawa died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Edith Virginia was born July 15, 1921, in a farm northwest of Onawa, the daughter of Bert and Edith (Messing) Benjamin. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1939. She attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa, and Morningside College in Sioux City and received a teaching certificate. She taught school until 1950.
She married Royce Beck on Feb. 18, 1950, in Onawa. The couple made their home on a farm near Onawa, where they raised their five children. Royce passed away April 3, 1986, in Onawa.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, St. John's and St. Bernard's Rosary Society and taught catechism classes for 20 years.

Survivors include her five children and spouses, Catherine Ann and Dennis Carlson of Hampton, Iowa, James Thomas and Lori Beck of Onawa, William Royce and Catrina Beck of Onawa, Michael Leon Beck of Onawa and Pamela Kay and Gary Casperson of Okeechobee, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Benjamin of Onawa; a sister and her husband, Helen and John Ryan of Blencoe, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Verla Benjamin of Onawa and Berniece Benjamin of South Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, the Rev. George, Maurice, Tom and Herbert Benjamin; a sister, Mary Benjamin; and a nephew, Matthew Benjamin.
