ONAWA, Iowa -- Frank Lynn Wilson, 87, of Onawa died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Rush Family Care Service at Onawa, with Elder Maxine Burow and Teacher Jacquelyn Girdner officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery in Moorhead, Iowa, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 224 of Dunlap, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Frank Lynn Wilson, son of Harold and Ruth (Outhouse) Wilson, was born Oct. 9, 1915, at Moorhead. He attended Moorhead Public School and graduated in 1933. He attended Iowa University for two years. He and Arla Olson of Soldier, Iowa, were married Sept. 30, 1935. They were the parents of three children, Carolyn, Richard and Francine. Carolyn died of SIDS at the age of one month, and Francine was killed in a car accident in 1972.

Frank worked for his father in the oil business before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served during World War II on the U.S. cruiser Phoenix of the 7th Fleet. In 1950, Frank and his family moved to Denison, Iowa, where he purchased the Skelgas Propane Gas dealership. He later sold that and bought Dairy Treet in Denison and later Dairy Sweet in Ute and Dunlap, Iowa. The couple retired in 1976 and moved to Onawa in 1987. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Sept. 30, 2002.

Frank was a lifelong member of Community of Christ Church, American Legion Post 224 of Dunlap and V.F.W. of Denison.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Arla; a son and his wife, Richard and Sandra of Suffolk, Va.; three grandchildren, Randy of Norfolk, Va., Melanie Cormier of Lynchburg, Va., and Jeffery and his wife, Gabrielle of Omaha, Neb.; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Zelpha Humlicek of Largo, Fla.; and many cousins and friends.
