ONAWA, Iowa -- E. Aurilla Mustard, 99, of Onawa passed away from this life on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Onawa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Chuck Layton officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Aurilla was born June 12, 1903 in Onawa, the oldest child of James Franklin and Nellie Blanch (Dean) Mustard, and lived all her life in Monona County. She attended Onawa public schools, graduated in 1922 and soon began her favorite occupation of teaching. She first taught in rural schools in Franklin, Jordan, Belvidere and Soldier townships. After furthering her education at Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Neb., and Morningside College in Sioux City, she taught kindergarten in Blencoe and Whiting public schools and then 17 years at Lark Elementary School in Onawa. She enjoyed 50 years of teaching and found it difficult to retire.

She was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church and a regular attendee at Sunday services. She was a member of United Methodist Women, P.E.O. Sisterhood, the National Teachers Association and Onawa Women's Club.

Survivors include a brother, Lester Mustard of Quincey, Calif., and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Mustard Beedle; and a brother, Maurice Mustard.

Memorials in her name may be directed to United Methodist Church in Onawa.
