MAPLETON, Iowa -- Floyd Erwin Marsh, 79, of Mapleton died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Maple Heights Care Center in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, with the Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Heisler Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Floyd was born July 15, 1923, to Sidney and Lena (Johnson) Marsh, in Collis, Minn. He received his education at Mapleton Public School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1945.

He married Alberta Katrine Christiansen on Aug. 24, 1945, in Mapleton. They made their living farming until 1981, when due to health reasons, they moved into Mapleton.

He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, country music, playing cards and vacationing with friends.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Marlys and Jim Engle of Early, Iowa; two sons, Glenn and his fiancee, Durene Petersen, and Gregg and his wife, Kathy, all of Mapleton; six grandchildren, Nicolas Engle of Lawton, Iowa, and Hunter, Nicole, Samantha, Rebecca and Kyle Marsh, all of Mapleton; three brothers, Elwyn and his wife, Honorata of Polk City, Iowa, Duane of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Kenneth and his wife, Anna of Adel, Iowa; four sisters, Marcella Jones of Osceola, Iowa, Verna and her husband, Mervin Wisner of Mustang, Okla., Delores and her husband, Clarence Burkhart of Mapleton, and Glennis and her husband, Erwin Copeland of Coloma, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; his parents; and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Nick Engle, Hunter, Nicole, Samantha, Rebecca and Steve Marsh and Gail Gosch. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Marsh, Herman Bockelmann, Clarence Burkhart, Dale Campbell and Paul Koenigs.
