MAPLETON, Iowa -- Mary P. McNamara, 88, of Mapleton died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a rosary by the St. Mary's Guild at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., all at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mary Pauline McNamara was born July 5, 1914, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Ed and Mary (Wildo) Bocian. Prior to her marriage, Mary was a resident of Sioux City, where she was employed at Wincharger Corporation and T.S. Martin Store as a stenographer.

On Nov. 20, 1937 she was united in marriage to William McNamara in Sioux City. To this union three sons were born. The family resided in Anthon, Iowa, until 1950, when they moved to Mapleton. It was there that Bill and Mary founded Mac's Chevrolet-Pontiac automobile dealership. Bill died unexpectedly at their son's home on Sept. 18, 1971. Mary continued to live at her home in Mapleton until her death.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton along with St. Mary's Guild.

Those survivors left to cherish Mary's memory include her three sons, Al and his wife, Norma of Diamond Bar, Calif., Tom and his wife, Bev, and Jim, all of Mapleton; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred and his wife, Rosie Bocian of Sioux City; along with other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Along with her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
