Edith G. Anderson

Edith Genevieve Anderson, 87, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with the Rev. Terry D. Hudson officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mrs. Anderson was born Aug. 2, 1914, in rural Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and Inga (Bakkene) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural school near Soldier.

She was employed with the Soldier Hotel and later moved to Sioux City. She was then employed in domestic service. For many years she was employed in the home of Dr. Arch O'Donahue.

She married Charles Anderson on April 2, 1941, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City. Her husband died Aug. 2, 1990, in Sioux City.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Norman G. and Cindy of Janesville, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Jackie K. Anderson of Eagle Lake, Minn.; five grandchildren, Darcy Jo, Michael Dean, Eric John and Christopher James Anderson and Sonja Kim Buchemier; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Doris M. Wagner of Onawa; three sisters-in-law, Gladyce Stewart of Portland, Ore., Hazel Hanson of Castana, Iowa, and Marjorie Hanson of Salem, Ore.; a brother-in-law, Charles Kerr of Great Mills, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by two sons, Richard John and Carl Edward; two sisters, Lillian and Bernice; five brothers, Hans, Koore, Martin, Norman and Elvin; a sister-in-law, Alma Hanson; and a brother-in-law, Dale Percy.

Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church in Sioux City or a charity of choice.
