Quinta I. Gerdes

WHITING, Iowa - Quints I. Gerdes, 89, of Whiting died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at a Onawa, Iowa hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carolyn Bittner of Hornick United Methodist Church in Hornick, Iowa, officiating. Visitation will be noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gerdes was born April 9, 1912, in Bristow, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Rena (Ward) DeLong.

She married George Gerdes on Sept. 29, 1931, in Spicer, Minn. She was employed as an operating room technician in several different states. Her husband died April 6, 1971, in Sauk Centre, Minn. In recent years, she did child care in the Onawa area.

She was a member of Congregational Church in Onawa and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Raymond and Nancy Sue of Sun Valley, Nev.; two daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Dwight Teel of Whiting and Donna and John Chamberlain of Rio Rancho, N.M.; three sisters, Wanda Ziegelman of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Laura Carey of Clearwater, Fla., and Faye and her husband, Stanley Hansen, of Moundsview, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
