Bertha Elna Rains, 91, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with the Rev. Shelley Aakre officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mrs. Rains was born Dec. 3, 1909, in Platte, S.D., the daughter of Byron and Minnie (Granger) Robbins. She graduated from Castana (Iowa) High School in 1927, and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught country school near Castana.

She married Willis M. Rains on May 14, 1932, in Onawa. The couple made their home in Sioux City in 1942. Her husband died Jan. 31, 1995. She entered Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa three months ago.

She was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City and enjoyed quilting, sewing and handiwork.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary E. Miller of Hornick, Iowa, and Delores and her husband, Phil Schneider of Sioux City; three granddaughters, Vicki Schneider, Eileen McCormick and Rebecca Davenport; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard and Hartley Robbins, both of Onawa; and a sister, Frances Robbins of Onawa.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Buford and Wilbur; and five sisters, Mildred, Dorothy, Esther, Alice and Jennie Belle.
