ONAWA, Iowa - Helen Agnes (Demean) Parrish, 88, of Onawa died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, with the Rev. Mike Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Onawa City Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Parrish was born June 20, 1912, in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was raised in the Onawa area and attended Onawa Public School. She served in the U.S. Army as a supply clerk and typist during World War II, from 1943 to 1944.

She married Lester G. Dawes on Dec. 1, 1944, in South Sioux City. He died Oct. 12, 1950, in Festus, Mo.

She then married Cecil A. Parrish on Dec. 11, 1953, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Missouri until returning to Onawa in 1969. She was a employed as a bookkeeper and a homemaker.

She was a member of First Christian Church and American Legion Auxiliary, both in Onawa.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Leila Dawes Bremer of Florence, Mo.; and two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands and an infant daughter, Marguerite.
