RODNEY, Iowa - Margie LaVonne Craig, 76, of Rodney died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rodney United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, near Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Mrs. Craig was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Rodney, the daughter of Joseph Leo and Zella (Patterson) Werling. She was raised in the Rodney area and graduated from Smithland High School in 1941. She then moved to Pendleton, Ore.

She married Virgil Mervin Craig on Oct. 22, 1943, in Pendleton. The couple returned to Iowa and resided near Rodney and Anthon, Iowa. They moved to Rulo, Neb. and Colorado, returning to Rodney in 1957. She was employed with Zenith Corp., Aalf's Manufacturing, Maple Heights Nursing Home and later as a cook at the Senior Citizen's Center in Rodney. Her husband died Nov. 7, 1998.

She was a member of Rodney United Church of Christ, Ladies Group, Royal Neighbors, Rebekah Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary Leslie Seaton Unit 666 of Smithland.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Doug and Marsha of Mapleton; three daughters, Carmen and her husband, Frank Carda of Sioux City, Beth Ryan of Mapleton and Zella Craig of Rodney; a brother and his wife, James J. "Jerry" and Martha Werling of Whiting; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James; a grandson, Michael Ryan; and a brother, Tommy Werling
