MAPLETON, Iowa - Sylvia Ervilla Henry, 97, of Mapleton died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Maple Height Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Chris Barr officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Henry was born May 17, 1904, near Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Irv and Millie (Bouslaugh) Smothers. Following her mother's death, she was raised by her father and grandmother, Sarah Smothers, near Castana.

She married Ralph Henry in 1954.

The couple made their home in Mapleton. Her husband died in 1967.

She was a member of Adventist Church in Ute, Iowa. She was a member of Castana Thursday Club, Mapleton Civic and Garden Club and Monona County Historical Society. She enjoyed reading and the outdoors.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorna Gay Henry of Mapleton and Betty and her husband, Bill Rich, of Hornick, Iowa; a son and his wife, Jack and Inga of Audubon, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Ralph, Gary, Jon and Lori Henry, Lisa Dreier, Mike and Denice Clift and LuAnn Fell; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvie, Ival and Irving Smothers.
