Mary Lou Ladwig

MAPLETON, Iowa - Mary Lou Ladwig, 78, of Mapleton died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Ladwig was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Mapleton, the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Beachler) Hopsecker. She graduated from Mapleton High School. She married Donald Ladwig on May 28, 1961. She worked at Abraham Midwest Wholesale for 34 years, and worked seven years at Maple Heights Nursing Home. She had volunteered for eight years in the church office at St. John's United Methodist Church.

She was a life member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 25 years, and a member of St. John's Ladies Nite Circle. She was a member of Royal Neighbors, a 50-year member of American Legion Auxiliary Loren Hollister Unit 496 of Mapleton, and a member of Mapleton Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband; a sister and her husband, Leona and Earl Laursen of Battle Creek, Iowa; two stepsons and their wives, Larry and Cyndee Ladwig of Greeley, Colo., and David and Connie Ladwig of Cherokee, Iowa; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Shelley and Dean Lenz and Marlys and Dan Anderson, all of Cherokee; 14 stepgrandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; and a niece and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepgranddaughter.
