ONAWA, Iowa - Michelle R. Fender, 45, of Onawa, formerly of Wahoo, Neb., died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Weston, Neb. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. today at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Visitation will resume after 6 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Visitation will also be one-half hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Fender was born Aug. 30, 1955, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Walter Robert "Bob" and Opal (Gottberg) Lackey Rezac. She moved with her family to Wahoo in 1966, where she attended St. Wenceslaus Elementary School and graduated from Bishop Neumann Central Catholic High School in 1973. She moved to Lincoln and attended Southeast Community College from 1973 to 1975. She was employed with Commonwealth Electric and Havelock Bank in Lincoln.

She married Michael L. "Mike" Fender on June 16, 1979, in Wahoo. The couple moved to Waverly, Iowa, in 1979.

She performed with The Sisters Act Karaoyke in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. She was also a representative with The Pampered Chef for several years in Onawa. They moved to Onawa in 1992. She graduated from the Academy of Nails in Omaha in 1999, as a licensed nails technician. She was then self-employed as a nail technician in Onawa.

She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Onawa, Altar Society and the St. John choir.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Josh, Bob and Scott, all of Onawa; her mother, Opal Rezac of Wahoo; two brothers, Mark Lackey and Michael Rezac, both of Wahoo; two sisters and their husbands, Marsha and Mark Otte of Wahoo and Joann and Doug Whisenhunt of Maxwell, Neb.; her mother-in-law, Wilma Johnson of Onawa; a sister-in-law and her husband, Barb and Les Ross of Onawa; a brother-in-law and his wife, Dave and Kathy Fender of Onawa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents, Albert and Mary (Spicka) Gottberg and Robert Lackey and Gatha Marvin.

Pallbearers will be Bob Skelton, Gerald Sherman, Gary Griffith, Irvin Sidlik, Mike Steyer, Greg Sottberg, Alan Churda and Johnny Petrzelka.
