WHITING, Iowa -- Edna M. Hyatt, 91, of Whiting, Iowa, passed from this life to a new life with her father in heaven on Saturday, April 19, 2003.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edna was born May 19, 1911, in Lyons, Neb., to Ervin and Aurina (Fosdick) Thompson. She was raised and attended school in the Turin, Iowa, area. On April 21, 1931, she married Alvin K. (Boss) Hyatt in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

They made their home in Onawa, Iowa, and Waubun, Minn. She was very musical, along with her whole family, and this passion and her talent led her to be involved in many musical groups. She could play the keyboards by ear, never using sheet music, which helped her land a job that fit her perfectly, working for Acme Piano and Organ Co. She also enjoyed playing the piano at Shakey's Pizza in Sioux City along with her partner, Rocky Stark, who played the banjo. During these years she became an avid horse lover and learned to ride very well.

She retired in Onawa and had been a resident of Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting for nearly four years. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Iowa.

Left to cherish her memory are a son, Alvin J. (Punk) and his wife, Edie Hyatt of DeSoto, Mo.; a daughter, Reta Warren of Onawa; a daughter-in-law, Donna Rae Hyatt of Onawa; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many friends and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Daniel W.; and all her brothers and sisters.
