MAPLETON, Iowa -- Randy A. Jochims, 57, of Mapleton died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Randy August Jochims was born Sept. 3, 1949, in Oakland, Calif., the son of Elmer and Pearl (Marten) Jochims. The family moved to Mapleton while he was a child. Following high school, he went into the Armed Forces. He moved to Omaha, where he worked at Safeway Food Stores for a few years. He joined the Army National Guard and returned to Mapleton in 1978. He worked for Jacobson Brothers before taking on a career with the Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1998.

He celebrated his 35th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Cindy (Brown). The couple was married on Aug. 4, 1972, at the Lutheran church in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

He was a member of the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 and St. Matthew Lutheran Church, both in Mapleton. He had several hobbies. He loved collecting rocks, bottles and arrowheads that he found in the Maple River. He had several collections of antiques including signs, McDonald's toys, bottle heads, Disney items and many more items.

He loved his family foremost and often would sacrifice his needs for others. He loved camping with his family and his friends. He was kind and generous with his time to everyone.

Along with his wife, Cindy, his memories are treasured by two sons and their wives, Brad and Shawntell Jochims and her children, Ashlie, Maggie and Leslie of Mapleton, and Chris and Amy Jochims of O'Fallon, Ill.; his daughter, Jacy, who lives at home; three grandchildren, Mercedes, Adam and Shyanne; 14 nieces and nephews; five sisters, Beverly McDermott of Charter Oak, Iowa, Bonnie and her husband, Frank Crilly of Danbury, Iowa, Belinda and her husband, David Bartels of Charter Oak, Birdie Jochims of Mapleton and Niece Jochims of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Jochims; his father, Elmer Jochims; a sister, Barbra Gosch; a brother, Dewey Jochims; his grandnephew, Tyler Michael Gosch; a special aunt and uncle, Ervin and Pauline Jochims; his father-in-law, Donald Brown; a sister-in-law, Susan Brown; and his uncle, Edgar Rossow.

Everyone said that Randy would have a special place in heaven. We are sure Randy is looking down on us and smiling.
