Maxine Francis Loomis
ONAWA, Iowa -- Maxine Frances Loomis, 87, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Burgess Health Centre in Onawa.

On July 7 she was laid to rest beside her beloved husband of 43 years, Tom Loomis, in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa. Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Maxine was born June 17, 1920, in Welton, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Hazel (Stebbins) Bentley. As a young child, she moved with her family to the River Sioux, Iowa area, where she attended school.

She married Virgil R. Meeker in 1936 and the couple made their home in Onawa. To this union four children were born.

In 1962, she married Tom Loomis in Elk Point, S.D. They lived in Onawa, where she worked various jobs at restaurants, in local homes, the Iowa Theater and Iowa Master Breeders. Tom passed away Aug. 8, 2005 in Whiting, Iowa. Due to failing health, she moved to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

She loved music and taught herself to play the guitar and accordion. She enjoyed the Grand Ole Opry and reading.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Frances and Jim Morgan of Kiron, Iowa, and Betty Ann and Bill Welty of Davenport, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John Bentley of Omaha; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Joyce and Maynard Harris of Moorhead, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, Tom, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ernest LeRoy Meeker in 1942; and a daughter, Dorothy Louise Swain in 2003.
