ONAWA, Iowa -- Rollie D. Johnson, 93, of Onawa died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Elmwood Care Center, where he had resided for the past few years.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Rollie was born Oct. 8, 1913, at Sloan, Iowa, the son of Rudolph and Anna (Seagren) Johnson. He attended school in Salix, Iowa, and had lived most of his life in the Onawa, Sloan and Salix area. He was a farmer all of his life. He was well known as a softball pitcher in his younger days.

Rollie was married to Gladys Hedges on Dec. 31, 1936, at Elk Point, S.D. Four children were born to this union, Ron, Susan, James and Jackie. Gladys died in 1982. Later, Rollie married Vivian Rowland.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian of Onawa; a son, Ron and his wife, Dee of Sioux City; a daughter, Susan Zima and her husband, David of Onawa; a daughter-in-law, Betty Johnson of Onawa; five grandsons; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; two sons, James and Jackie; two brothers, Conley and LeRoy; and two sisters, Iva Hopkins and Mina Johnson.
