Bert E. Seitzinger

ONAWA, Iowa -- Bert Edward Seitzinger of Onawa died Sept. 8, 2007, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Onawa. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Bert Edward Seitzinger was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Sherman Township, Iowa. He graduated from Blencoe (Iowa) High School. He served as a private first class with the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in the Pacific during World War II.

He attended business school in Des Moines, where he met and then married Jeannette Putnam of Eldora, Iowa, in 1947. They lived in Blencoe, Iowa, until 1962, when they moved to Onawa. The couple owned and operated Monona Constructors Inc., which built many roads and dikes throughout Iowa and the region.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. As a talented saxophonist, he played in a jazz band as a teenager and later in a trio with his daughters at home. He was a loving husband, father and gentle to all.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Jeannette Urquhart-Myers and Sybil Putnam Seitzinger; a grandson, Clinton Cordell Weaver; a granddaughter, Michelle Renae Weaver; a sister, Marjorie Peterson; and a brother, Franklin Delano Seitzinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Stella Seitzinger; and a brother, Rex Seitzinger; and his wife, Jeannette Putnam Seitzinger.

The family would like to thank Clint Weaver for all the care and love he showed his grandfather -- he enriched his last years immeasurably.
