ONAWA, Iowa -- Gladys Hansen, 86, of Onawa died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rush Family Chapel, with Pastor Dan Collison officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Gladys was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Onawa, where she lived almost her entire life. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1938 and attended beauty school in Sioux City.

In 1941, she married John Hansen in Dakota City, Neb. The couple raised two children, John "Bill" and Georgianna, and enjoyed 44 years of marriage until John's passing in 1985.

Gladys operated Hansen's Beauty Shop in Onawa and enjoyed many years of serving the public until her health failed.

She was elected councilwoman for the 4th Ward and was very proud of her accomplishment. Her love of gardening and flowers filled a lot of her time, and the results always showed off her efforts.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Georgianna and Joe Hastert of Panama, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Rose Hansen of Winthrop, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Joyce and Keith Hall of Whiting, Iowa; three grandsons, Brett Niles, James Hansen and Billy and his wife Trisha Hansen; a great-grandson, Will; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Bill; her parents, George and Mildred Strunk; and a brother, Lyle.
