ONAWA, Iowa -- Kathryn B. Vipond, 90, formerly of Onawa, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, where she had resided the past few years.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa. Inurnment will be in Onawa City. Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Katie was born on Nov. 24, 1916, in Garner, Iowa, the daughter of Matthew and Catherine (Collins) Kirschbaum. She graduated from the Presentation Academy in Whittemore, Iowa.

She was married to James R. Vipond on Aug. 15, 1937, at Whittemore. They farmed in the Algona, Iowa, area until moving to Onawa in 1966, where Mr. Vipond was employed as the ASCS manager in Onawa. The couple traveled in many states after his retirement.

Katie enjoyed playing golf, bridge and oil painting, especially doing landscape paintings, which were displayed in relatives' houses.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Richard and Shirley of Denison and Jack and Sharon of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Rosie Vipond of Kemak, Texas, Lisa and Bob Buban of Dallas, Texas, Bill and Carolyn Vipond of Ankeny, Iowa, and Bob and Carole Vipond of Des Moines; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Phyllis Nicolet of Clinton, Iowa; a special cousin, Irene Ingebretson of Clear Lake, Iowa; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James in 1995; and a brother, Robert Kirschbaum.
