WHITING, Iowa -- Mary C. Anderson, 98, of Whiting died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Whiting Christian Church, with the Rev. Nick Koenig officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Mary was born Oct. 31, 1909, in Monona County, Iowa, the daughter of George A. and Jennio A. (Frisk) Conyers. She was raised in Monona County and graduated from Blencoe High School. After graduation, she was a telephone operator for 12 years.

She married William John "Bill" Anderson on Aug. 7, 1938, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Monona County. Bill died May 11, 1969, in Whiting. She lived her life helping others and continued assisting the residents of Pleasant View Care Center at the age of 95, when she was admitted there for rehabilitation therapy.

She was a member of Whiting Christian Church for more than 60 years and also belonged to Dorcas Society. She enjoyed reading the Bible, church work and volunteer work.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Savery of Soldier, Iowa, and Sharon and her husband, Bob Pratt of Sioux City; a special niece and her husband, Elaine and Jerry Shaffer and their son, Greg, all of Onawa; nine grandchildren, Randy, Rodney and Kevin Savery, Jeff and Chris Pratt, Donnie and Mike Anderson, Susan Downs and Sherrie Hamway; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris (Lloyd) McCall of Sioux City; a brother, Jack (Lillian) Conyers of Onawa; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.

In addition to her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Walter Anderson; a son-in-law, Ardell Savery; three brothers, Everrett, Albert and Bert Conyers; two sisters, Ruth Harris and Della Mann; a brother-in-law, Paul Harris; and three sisters-in-law, Alberta Conyers, Ethel Conyers and Betty Conyers.
