Bonnie Jean Stevenson

ONAWA, Iowa -- Bonnie Jean Stevenson, 75, of Onawa died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, with Pastor Steven Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Bonnie was born Dec. 28, 1932, at Albaton, Iowa, the daughter of Merlin and Margie (Larson) Lee. She attended country school at Albaton and then entered Sloan Public School, where she graduated with the class of 1951.

Bonnie and Charles "Dick" Stevenson were united in marriage on June 22, 1952, at Onawa. They lived in Whiting and Sloan, Iowa, before making their home in Onawa in 1961. Bonnie worked at the Monona County Court House for 40 years. She was first hired as a clerk in the treasurer's office. Later, Bonnie was appointed the Monona County Assessor for 10 years until her retirement in December 1994.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and WELCA. Bonnie will always be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help all her family and friends. She had a special kinship with her two granddaughters and was especially interested in attending and supporting their school activities. Bonnie also was an exceptional cook. She and Dick also enjoyed happy times dancing and fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Dick of Onawa; two sons and their wives, Ben and Martha of Iowa City, Iowa, and Brad and Celia of Blencoe, Iowa; two granddaughters, Theresa and Janie of Blencoe; and other family members, Virginia Edson of Aurora, Colo., Harry Hoffman of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Bernice Stevenson of Onawa, Lorraine Greinke of Onawa, Bob and Bonnie Stevenson of Onawa, Deleva Stevenson of Manchester, Iowa, Jack and Norma Stevenson of Sloan, Joanne Eisele of Onawa and Caryl Powell of Salix, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jim Lee
