Palma L. Conway

ONAWA, Iowa -- Palma L. Conway, 88, of Onawa went home to be with Jesus Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelical Free Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Tim Koehn officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Palma was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Albaton, Iowa, the daughter of Norwegian immigrants Hoaken and Helga (Lorenson) Christianson. She was raised and attended country school in Albaton.

She and James Conway were united in marriage on Oct. 10, 1940, in Sioux City. The couple made their home and raised their family in Onawa, where together they owned and operated Conway Plumbing and Heating. James passed away June 17, 1976, in Omaha. During her life, in addition to the years spent with their business, she was a receptionist for Pearson Funeral Home, a cook at Senior Citizen Center and a clerk at Act II, retiring at the age of 83.

She will always be loved and known by her family and friends for her love of the Lord and her hard work ethics. She was a charter member of Evangelical Free Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Linda and Dean Harding of Davenport, Iowa; two sons, Larry of Onawa and Harold and Diane of Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren, Becki (Tony) Nichols of Erie, Colo., Chad (Kathy) Conway of Loveland, Colo., James and Matthew Harding, both of Davenport, Iowa, Tami McGinnis of Minneapolis and Jim of Mason City, Iowa; five great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Helen and Duane Vogt of Holstein, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Harold and Doris Christianson of Sergeant Bluff; and a sister-in-law, Maxine Christianson of Whiting, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry and Art Christianson; and a sister, Esther Conway.
