MAPLETON, Iowa -- Lois L. Gray, 92, of Mapleton died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.

Lois Louise Gray was born on the family farm near Mapleton, Iowa, to Leonard and Rua (Bueoy) Gray. Lois had an older brother, Charles, and a younger sister, Charlotte. She graduated from Mapleton Public School, Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, and the University of Wyoming.

She began her teaching career in country schools near her home and later taught elementary school in Mapleton for several years. She also taught in Storm Lake and Rockwell City, Iowa, where she was also a librarian. Lois retired to care for her mother on the farm until her mother's death on May 12, 1979.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where she helped with teaching and other work.

Those left to cherish her memories are George and Janice Haase and Roger and Lou Ann Gray and families.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; her brother, Charles Gray; and her sister, Charlotte (Mrs. Clyde) Pohlman.

Pallbearers will be members of the Mapleton Fire Department.
