ONAWA, Iowa -- Janette Ardith Phipps, 84, of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at Iowa City Care and Rehab Center.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Castana Community Church in Castana, Iowa, with the Rev. Linda Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Janette was born June 24, 1923, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of John and Bertha (Petersen) Henry.

In 1940, she married Ralph Phipps in Elk Point, S.D. The couple had farmed near Castana until 1971, when they moved into town. They lived in Onawa for two years before moving to Whiting, Iowa in 2000. She had been a resident of Iowa City Care and Rehab Center since October 2005.

She was a member of Castana Community Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph of Iowa City; two daughters, Donna Norman of Iowa City and Joyce and her husband, Gary Gibbs of Ute, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Phipps of Blencoe, Iowa; five grandchildren; sic great-grandchildren; and two sisters on the west coast.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gerald; and a son-in-law, Kirby Norman.
