James Creswell

BLENCOE, Iowa -- James Creswell, 82, of Blencoe went to be with his Lord Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with Pastor Don Collison officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Blencoe. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

James was born June 28, 1925, on his family farm near Blencoe, the son of Irish/Scottish immigrants, Leithem and Mary Helen (Watson) Creswell. After the death of his mother, his father married Jennie Warner. He was a lifelong resident of rural Blencoe, where he attended country school and later graduated from Blencoe High School in 1944.

James and Donna Hutcheson were united in marriage on March 31, 1951, at First Christian Church in Onawa. They made their home and farmed in the Blencoe area.

He was a member of First Christian Church. He enjoyed walking the trails at his old hill farm, now the location of Loess Hills Scenic Overlook. Jim was a great conversationalist who loved to travel, visit farm machinery businesses and tractor shows, where he collected farm literature and was an avid reader of old books.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Blencoe; three sons, Ronald and his wife, Pam of Spencer, Iowa, David of Blencoe and Donald A. and his wife, Susan L. of Stoughton, Wis.; a daughter, Mary E. and her husband, Gary Vanderslice of Centennial, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Micki of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Michael and Mitchell Creswell, Mindy (Ted) Bosanek, Melissa (Paul) Jedruski, Sarah Creswell and Elise and Jack Vanderslice; three great-grandchildren, Tayler, Hayen and Easton Bosanek; and a brother and his wife, Chester and Kathy Creswell of Blencoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother; and an infant sister.
