Douglas E. Broer

Onawa, Iowa--Douglas Eugene Broer, 37, of Omaha, formerly of Onawa, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2007.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at John A. Gentlemen Pacific Street Chapel in Omaha. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Doug was born August 14, 1970, in Onawa, to Eugene and Nancy (Archer) Broer. He attended West Monona High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1988. He served on active duty as a satellite/wide-band communications technician for eight years. He continued his service as a Air Force Reservist with the 133rd Test Control Squadron for 11 years. He served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm as well as the Kuwait Liberation.

On December 7, 1991, he married Debra Cathleen Moorhead at Homestead AFB, Florida. He was a beloved and dedicated father to his two daughters, Dana and Dawn. He later attended Wayland Baptist University, where he earned a dual major in business management and electronic communications. In addition, he earned his community college of the Air Force degree in applied science for electronic. He was employed by Cricket as a network operations supervisor
Besides his family, his passions were camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, any outdoor adventure and sharing that passion with his daughters. He loved history and taking his children to museums to share his love of the history of our country. It was important to him, his girls understood and appreciated the outdoors, history and patriotism. These were all things near and dear to his heart and the values he lived by.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Debi of Omaha; his daughters, Dana and Dawn; his parents, Gene and Nancy Broer of Turin, Iowa; a sister, Ranae Broer of Onawa; nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles and cousins; his wife’s family; and numerous friends.

He was loved and admired by everyone who knew him and the loss of this great man will be sadly missed.
