Marilyn Menter Garred

Onawa, Iowa---Marilyn Menter Garred, 70, of Onawa died unexpectedly Sunday, September 16, 2007, at her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Onawa, with Pastor Arley Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in Ingermann Cemetery at Moorhead, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Marilyn was born Oct. 3, 1936, at Sioux City, the daughter of Wayne and Grace (Able) Menter. Mr. Menter was in education, and the family lived at various Iowa locations including Holly Springs, Moorhead, Sloan and Sioux City. Marilyn graduated from East High School in Sioux City and earned a bachelor of arts degree in education at Morningside College. She taught kindergarten in Des Moines for two years.

Marilyn and William Garred were united in marriage on June 26, 1960, at Grace Methodist Church in Sioux City. They made their home at Onawa, where Dr. Garred practiced medicine. The couple lived in Arizona and Wyoming from 1989 until 2004, when they returned to Onawa, where Dr. Garred resumed his medical practice.

She was a member of United Methodist Church and had been a lifelong member of the Methodist faith. She was also a member of Queen Esther Chapter 222, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, William Garred; a brother and his wife, Robert and Elaine Menter of Denver, Colo., a nephew, Alex Menter of Denver, and a niece, Barbara, Jean VanHare, also of Denver.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
