Terry Melby

Terry Howard Melby, 53, Onawa, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, from injuries due to an automobile accident in Crawford County, Iowa.

Terry was born November 18, 1950 at Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Howard Clifford Melby and Esther Bernice (Leisinger) Melby. He graduated from East Monona High School in 1969. He worked at Farmland in Denison, Iowa, until he was drafted into the Army. He served his country with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Terry was discharged February, 1972.

He married Marilyn LaJean Thompson March 4, 1972 in Onawa. This union was blessed with three children, Teige, Talen and Trina. After serving his country, Terry farmed, sold insurance and worked in construction.

He was a member of the Ute VFW Post and the Moorhead American Legion Peter A. Hansen Post #365. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball and was a school board member at East Monona Community School. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports.

Survivors include a son, Teige Melby and his wife, Kathy and children, Logan and Morgan of Logan, Iowa; a son, Talan Melby and his fiancé Lori Castaneda of Wellington, Kansas and his daughter, Makenzie of Moville, Iowa; a daughter, Trina and her husband, Jeff Dailey and children, Tamia, Jayden and Kiarra of Katy, Texas; sisters and brother, Peg and Bill Voss of Onawa, Marty and Connie Melby of Storm Lake, Iowa and Loretta and Russ McCall of Decatur, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Saundra Melby and a nephew, Travis Swenson.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004 at Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Meggan Manlove officiating. Music selections were the congregation singing, “How Great Thou Art”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace”. Burial was a Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Military services were conducted by Aaby American Legion Post #442, Ute, Iowa and Ute VFW Post #5605. Visitation was 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2004 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa

Casket bearers were Rick Barnett, Vernon Melby, Duane Renx, Larry Pederson, Jack Allen and Rick Melby. Honorary bearers were Joe McAndrews, Don McAndrews, Roger Androy, Randy Wacheldorf and Rick Blume.
