Clare Alice Luft was born September 10, 1902, the daughter of William and Margaret Gaughan. She died December 10, 2000, in Littleton, Colorado at the age of ninety-eight.

Clare was born in Ute, Iowa, and grew up on a farm in the Ute area. She was a graduate of the Dunlap Schools and after completing her education she taught school in Holstein, Iowa in the 1920’s. After obtaining her cosmetology degree, Clare worked as a beautician through the 1930’s in Denison, Iowa.

Clare was united in married in 1933 to Ben Luft of Denison and in 1941, the couple moved with their daughter, Janet to Glendale, California. Clare and her sister, Donna Fester, owned and operated the Glen Mae Beauty Salon in Glendale until their retirement in 1970. In the following years, Clare and her husband, lived in Charter Oak, Iowa, Littleton, Colorado, and Denison, Iowa. After the death of her husband in 1984, Clare moved to Vista, California to be near her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Edward Fester. She recently moved to Littleton, Colorado to be near her grandson, James Lefferdo
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Janet and son-in-law, James Lefferdo; granddaughter, Lynn; four sisters, Mary Weber, Margaret Heffernan, Anastasia Schulte, Ella Staley; two brothers, Edward and Joseph Gaughan.

Survivors include her grandson, Jim Lefferdo and his wife, Donna of Littleton., Colorado’ a great-granddaughter, Elise; one sister, Donna Fester of St. Anthony, Minnesota and one brother, Leo Gaughan of Denison, Iowa

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2000, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Fr. Edward Murray served as Celebrant of the Mass with inurnment at St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Jean Cornelius provided the organ music. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Parish Center, served by the Altar Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangement.
