Age 91 of Ute, Iowa

Elizabeth I. Torgerson, age 91, of Mapleton and formerly of Ute, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Edgar Bode officiating. Burial was in St Clair Cemetery, Ute. Creta Teut was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, “Amazing Grace”, and “How Great Thou Art” A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Elizabeth Ida Torgerson was born October 18, 1909, the daughter of Louis and Edith (Ehlers) Fester at Ute, Iowa. She lived most of her life in the Ute and Soldier area. She married Allen Torgerson November 14, 1931 at Baird Brother Place, where they farmed for many years. Allen died in 1961.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include one son and his wife, Leo and Joyce Torgerson of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Frieda Schwingdorf of Mapleton and Clara Fester of San Diego, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; her parents; two sisters, Elsie Mathews of San Diego, California and Rose Hanson of Ute, Iowa; and one brother, Leo Fester of Ute, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Paul Kemp, Rodney Johnson, Dwayne Fester, Adam Niess, Roger Johnson and Ardell Savery.
