Age 51 of Ute, Iowa

Gary L Riddle, age 51, of Ute, Iowa, died suddenly at his residence Monday, January 1, 2001.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, with Pastor Edgar Bode officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Creta Teut was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, “How Great Thou Art” and “Abide With Me”. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at St Paul’s Lutheran Church. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute.

Gary Lavern Riddle was born February 14, 1949, at Onawa, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Betty Jean (Hall) Riddle.

Gary attended Charter Oak-Ute Community School and graduated with the class of 1967. He then served his country by joining the United States Marine Corp and later met Linda Riley at the bowling alley in Denison, Iowa. The two were married on July 12, 1970, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home near Ute, and were blessed with the birth of three girls. Gary worked at IBP, Gregerson Elevator, Berne Coop, and for DuWayne Meseck until he began farming for himself.

Gary was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He had many hobbies as a young man which included pick up pulling, tractor pulling, and flying an ultralight with several of his dear friends. Gary’s favorite past time included spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren on the farm, blowing bubbles, giving tractor rides, and teaching his grandsons how to be sharp shooters with a BB gun along with playing peek-a-boo with his granddaughter but most of providing a lap for the three of them to rest on. Everyone who knew him could find him cruising the countryside on his motorcycle or sitting in town drinking coffee, playing cards, and being the prankster everyone knew. He was always a lender of advice and offered a helping caring hand to those who needed it.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute as well as the American Legion Aaby Post #442 also of Ute.

Those left to cherish his memory include Linda, his wife of 30 years; three daughters, Dena Seward and her husband, Jeremy of Whiting, Iowa, Stacie Brown and her husband, Percy Lee, Jr. of St. Amant, Louisianna, and Amy Riddle of Onawa, Iowa; three grandchildren, Colby and Derek Seward and Katlyn Brown; his mother, Betty Riddle Georgious and step-father, Robert Georgious of Denison, Iowa; three brothers, Craig Riddle, and Brian Riddle and his wife, Rene, all of Phoenix, Arizona, and Barry of Rye, New Hampshire; one half-brother, Kevin Georgious and his wife, Cammie of Denison, Iowa; five step-brothers, Brad Georgious and his wife, Lana of Manilla, Iowa, Mike Georgious and his wife, Julie of Dow City, Iowa, Steven Georgious and his wife, Renee of Powell, Wyoming, Robert Georgious and his wife, Patti of Thermopolis, Wyoming, and Dan Georgious and his wife, Holly of Dow City, Iowa, and one step-sister, Kim Christensen and her husband, Barry of Manilla, Iowa, along with many other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Riddle and his grandparents, Brady and Ernestine Riddle and Richard and Hannah Hall.

Pallbearers were Harvey Thies, Joe McAndrews, Don Seufert, Raymond Gosch, Donnie Martz, Mike Larsen, DuWayne Meseck, Robert Hinrichsen and Lyle Bramley.
