Fred S. Grothe Dies
Former Resident of Monona County

Fred S. Grothe was born August 28, 1898 at Fort Smith, Ark. and passed from this life in the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebr. on Wednesday evening, February 21, 1962. Death came as the result of an accident on their farm near Tekamah, Nebr.

He became entangled in the power take off of a feed grinder and was rushed to the hospital in Omaha. Death came a short time later.

On February 7, 1931 he was united in marriage with Sadie Bailey at Primghar, Iowa. He had been a resident of Gretna, Nebraska and later at Tekamah and until about a year ago was employed at the Maude McNeill farm north on Onawa. He moved to the farm at Tekamah just one year ago.
He was a member of the Christian Church at Gretna, Nebr.

Survivors include his widow, Sadie: five sisters: Mrs. Bessie Disney, Helobury, Calif: Mrs. Goldie Woody of Sandy Ore: Mrs. Carrie Harsma of Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Mrs. Jessie Towers of Gering, Nebraska and Mrs. Edith Kroesaing of Goodland, Kansas. There are a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Also a number of great and great- great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lena, Nellie and Lilly and two brothers, John and Eugene.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday February 24th at the Pearson Funeral Home. Rev Everette Epperson conducted the service. Mrs. Orland Ferris sang “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Old Rugged Cross” accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Carl Linden

The casket bearers were Harold Mobley Sr, Harold Mobley Jr., Frank Mobley, Henry Miller, Harry Stinson and Albert Raymond.
Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery, Blenco, Iowa
