A Prominent Mapleton Banker Passes Away

N.W. Pike, 74, President of Mapleton Bank Died On Monday After Long Illness

Was Well and Favorably Known Throughout the County. Funeral was Held At Mapleton, Ia., On Wednesday Afternoon.

Newell W. Pike, 74, president of the First Trust & Savings Bank, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 16th, 1950, at a Sioux City hospital following a long illness.

Mr. Pike had a wide acquaintance throughout Monona County and was highly respected. At the death of the late Charles Whiting, he became president of the Mapleton Bank which position he held at the time of his death. He was a man of sterling character, a leader in the community in which he resided for many years and a man of Christian principles.

Mr. Pike was born September 13 1876 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Lewis Pike. He attended the Whiting public schools from which he was a graduate, after his graduation he attended the Capital City Business College at Des Moines.
On June 19, 1906 he was united in marriage to Avada Allen at Augusta, Wisc. Mrs. Pike preceded Mr. Pike in death about a year ago.

In 1892 Mr. Pike became vice-president of the Mapleton Trust & Savings Bank, a position he held until the death of Charles I Whiting, at which time he was promoted to president.

He is survived by one son, Allen Pike, three brothers, Harold L Pike, of Whiting and Arthur C. Pike, also of Whiting and Robert Pike of Sioux City: one sister Miss Mildred Pike of Sioux City and three grand children.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Mapleton Episcopal church. Rev. F. B. Shaner and Rev J.D. Salter officiating. Burial was made in the Mapleton Cemetery.
