Obituary of Charles Martin Tippens:
Died October 9th, 1950

Charles Martin (Dick) Tippens, son of Lucy Cleary and Charles H. Tippens, was born May 31, 1913 and departed this life October 9, 1950 at the age of 37 years 4 months and 8 days.

He was reared to manhood in this community, having spent his entire life on the farm near Whiting, which he was occupying at the time of his death. He attended the Whiting school, then helped his father on the farm, later going into partnership with him.

On September 20, 1934 he was married to Ethel Naomi Koenig, and to this union five children were born, Lucille Elizabeth, 14: Mary Louise, 13: Charles Louis, 11: Karen Jean 4: and Dorothy Ann 3 months.

Dick had been in falling health for the last five years. He was a devoted father and husband and enjoyed his family.

He joined the Weston Masonic Lodge of Whiting in 1939 and took and active part in that organization, holding the office of Master Mason in 1945. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and Falcon Lodge and the Sioux City Consistory.

His mother passed away October 31, 1921 and his sister Elizabeth passed away July 26, 1934.
Surviving are his father, widow, and five children and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral was held in the Methodist church under the direction of the Wood Funeral Home, Masonic graveside services were held at the Whiting cemetery where he was laid to rest. Gilbert Smith sang, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Abide With Me” accompanied by Mrs. Louie Langren, Mrs. Burnell Waugh, Mrs. Floyd Godsey, Mrs. Leo Hall, and Mrs. Jewell Waugh had charge of the flower arrangements.

Dinner was served by the High Ridge Club and lunch was served by the O.E.S. at the Tippens home.

Pallbearers were Ralph Robinson, Bert Harding, Glen Hall, Ted Yeager, Ray Fisher and Lloyd Godsey.
