“Bird” Archer Long Time Resident Is Dead

Services Held At Cheney Mortuary And Burial
Was Made In The Jordan Cemetery

His Young Manhood Days Were Spent in Farming
Near Castana. He was 75 Years, 5 Months, and 16 days of age.

Bird Archer, pioneer resident of Monona County, passed away on Tuesday, morning May 11th of a heart attack at his home in Onawa, at the age of 75 years, 5 months, and 16 days.

He was the son of Moses and Margaret Archer and was born in Plymouth County, near LeMars on December 26, 1867.

Mr. Archer was one of nine children being the fifth son, all except his one brother, John having passed away.
Mr. Archer’s earlier life was spent in farming near Castana.

He was united in marriage to Ella McCrory of Castana, Iowa, on November 14, 1893. Had Mr. Archer lived to this November 14 would have been their 50th wedding anniversary.

He was a kind husband and father and had always been ready to help others.
Surviving are the widow Mrs. Ella Archer, two daughters, Mrs. Alfred Ulven of Albany Oregon, and Mrs. Lawrence McDonald of Castana, Iowa: and three sons, Emil Archer of Blencoe: and Murl and Raymond of Moorhead, Iowa.

A daughter, Maude Whitlock and one infant son preceded him in death.

Included in the survivors is the one brother, John Archer, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren, also a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Cheney Mortuary with Rev. Travis officiating and burial was made in the Jordan cemetery.
