The obituary of Mrs Anna Sturges

Anna Ruth French Sturges was born at Skidmore, Missouri on August 1, 1893 and died at the Onawa Hospital on November 22, 1960 at the age of 67 years 3 months and 21 days.

She was the oldest daughter of James Myron and Grace Edna French. Two brothers Myron and Jacob as well as her parents preceded her in death.
In 1912 the family moved to Charter Oak, Iowa where Anna taught in the rural schools. She was married to Carl Christy Sturges at Charter Oak on September 15, 1914. Her husband was engaged in the printing business at Dunlap, Dennison and Atlantic, Iowa. They the purchased the Correctionville News in 1922.

Her husband died June 2, 1931 but Anna continued to operate the business until 1942. After leaving Correctionville she worked for many years for the Brandels Company in Onawa. She came to Onawa in 1958 where she had made her home with her brother-in-law and sister Mr and Mrs George L Carlsen.

She is survived by 2 sons, Philip C of Salt Lake City, Utah and Herbert F of New London, Ohio, 3 grandsons, Carl, John and Michael, 2 sisters Mrs George L Carlson of Onawa and Mrs George V Hanigan of Molalla, Oregon a number of other relatives and many friends.

She was a lifelonf member of the Methodist Church and belonged to the Queen Esther Chapter Order of Eastern Star and the Past Matrons organization in Onawa.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday November 25th at the Onawa Methodiat Church. Rev Paul R Johnson conducted the services.
Mrs William Barnard sang "Face to Face" and "In The Garden" accompanied at the organ by Mrs Oliver Kelley.

The casket bearers were Oliver Kelley, George King Jr, Watson Willey, Merle Ruble, Elmer Hansen and V D Berrier.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. at the Correctionville Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home.
