Mrs. Mary McDonald Passed Away Sunday

Mrs. Mary McDonald quietly passed away at her home in Castana Sunday evening, Oct 28 (1933), after a brief illness at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 7 days. Although unable to get out much in recent years, yet she was able to get around her home until the day before her passing, and the end came as a surprise to the family.

Mary Laura Carver was born at Carvers Corners, Cayuga Co., New York, August 22, 1854, and came to Monona County in 1878. She was married to James McDonald, who passed from this life in 1908. To the family six children were born five boys and one girl, the little girl dying in infancy and one son, Ardon (Arden), passed away in Oklahoma in 1918 (1923). Four sons Levi, Willie, Homer and Frank, all of whom reside in Castana, and cherish the memory or their good mother, who cared for them for many years, and for whom they have tenderly cared for in her old age. In early life she affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church.

Mrs. McDonald had seen nearly sixty years of Monona County history unroll and with her family had an active part in building up this part of the country.

The funeral was held in the community church of Castana Tuesday afternoon, J.E. McNamara having charge of the services at which a large number of old friends gathered to pay their last respects. Six grand children of Mrs. McDonald acted as pallbearers. Interment was in Belvidere cemetery.
