Whiting, Iowa--Donnie Earl Anderson, 84, lifelong Whiting resident, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Pleasant View Care Centre in Whiting.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Whiting Christian Church in Whiting, with the Rev. Rusty Hedger officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, Whiting. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.

Donnie was born Feb. 14, 1921, in rural Whiting, the son of Alva and Pearl(Funkhouser) Anderson. He stayed at home and helped his father on the farm.

On Jan. 24, 1942, he was united in marriage with Mary R. Bird in South Sioux City. During World War II from October 1942 until November 1945, he served his country in the U.S. Army. When he returned home after the war, he and Mary lived the rest of their married life on a farm near Whiting until they moved to Pleasant View Care Centre two years ago. Mary died Feb. 25, 2005, in Whiting.

He was a member of Whiting Christian Church, Emery Johnson American Legion Post 481 at Whiting, and Monona County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Larry and Bonnie Anderson and Robert and Janet Anderson, all of Omah, Neb.; two daughters and their husbands, Loretta and Ken McCarter of Omaha, and Ann and George Boekhout of McAllen, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dollie Heck of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; three sisters and two brothers.
