The Obituary of Alva Leroy Anderson

Alva Leroy Anderson was born June 11, 1881, in Waverly, Ohio. He passed from this life on Dec. 30, 1958, in the St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mr. Anderson came to Iowa at the age of 7 years with his father, four brothers and four sisters in a covered wagon. Alva spent most of his life in the Whiting vicinity. He was united in marriage with Pearl Funkhouser on September 25, 1904.

Alva is survived by his widow, Pearl; three sons, Howard and Donnie of Whiting, and Floyd of South Sioux City, Nebr.; four daughters, Mrs. Fern Gulick, Mrs. Beulah Kron, Mrs. Dollie Heck and Mrs. Minnie Thomas of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One daughter, Olive, preceded him in death.

These past months were difficult ones for Alva. He did however spend what time he could fishing on the river he loved. Many relatives and friends are left to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, 1959, in the Church of Christ at Whiting, with Rev. Geral Knopp officiating. Gilbert Smith sang accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Langren. Mrs. Edgar Anderson and Mrs. Ben Skidmore, Sr., were in charge of the flowers. Casket bearers were Roy Gregory, Earl Renne, Elmer Baker, Chris Westergaard, George Walker and Clarence Brenden. Burial was in the Harrison cemetery with the Wood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
