Elmer C. Folsom Died at Iowa City January 25, 1945

Elmer Clarence Folsom, son of Joseph Folsom and his wife, Mrs. Mamie Price Folsom, was born June 15, 1900 at Maple Landing, south west of Whiting, Monona County, Iowa. He passed away after many months of illness at the State Hospital at Iowa City, January 25, 1945 at the age of 44.

He was united in marriage on March 26, 1944 to Loretta Kepner Jenkins. Of his own immediate family he leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, and elder son Elmer, Jr. of Alhambra, California. One son, Stanley who had reached the age of 12 was killed in an automobile accident in 1939. He leaves also, his mother, Mrs. Mamie Price Folsom of Onawa: three brothers, Lawrence and Everett of Onawa: Edwin of Jefferson, S.D.: one sister, Ruby Weikel of Hornick, Iowa.

In the early days of his professional career he was a telegraph operator for the North Western Railroad, first in Battle Creek, Iowa and later at Modale.

After several years in the telegraph business he gave it up to enter a barber school in Omaha. As a barber he worked in shops in and near Omaha and then set tie in Calica, Arkansas. In 1939 he returned to Onawa and became a partner in the Williams Barber Shop. Here he followed the trade until a short time before his death.

Mr. Folsom was a member of the First Congregational church of Onawa. For several years he was deacon in this church. He was also a member of the Onawa Chapter of the I.O.O. F. Lodge.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Congregational church Onawa, Monday January 29, 1945 by the pastor Rev. Lawrence Murphy. Mrs. E.E. Gingles sang two selections “Beautiful Isle” by Ferris and “Still, Still With Thee” by Jacobson.

Mrs. Glenn Danforth played the organ accompaniment. Interment was made in the Harrison cemetery by the Pearson Mortuary.
Ritualistic Services were conducted by Local Odd Fellows with Roy Loomis as Chaplain and Cecil Treece as Noble Grand and Chas Loomis as Vice Grand. The Pallbearers were J.C. Williams, Harry Kratz, Roy Tuttle, Bernard Higgins, Geo. Treece and John Tyson.
