Fred J Conyers

Fred J Conyers, son of John and Amelia Conyers, was born in the old town of Moorhead, January 30, 1898 and died at Pisgah, March 4, 1919 at the age of 21 years, 1 month and 3 days. The news of Fred’s death last Tuesday came as a great shock to his host of friends. He had been sick the past fifteen days with pneumonia, brought on by the flu. He had made such a brave fight and was thought to be improving, until Tuesday noon when complications set in and he failed rapidly until eight o’clock, when he closed his eyes on the sufferings of this life and entered into Eternal rest. He was a young man of sterling character and was loved by all who knew him for his goodness and sunny disposition.

He moved with his parents at the age of 5 years to the Conyers place on the Sioux where his life was spent until the death of his father, several years ago when he moved to Pisgah to make a home for his mother until her death two years ago. He was a member of the class of 1917 of the Pisgah high school and graduated with high honors. Since his graduation he has made his home with his sister, Mrs. R.L. Knudson of Sioux Township. On February 5, 1919 he was united in marriage to Miss Bessie Heasten of Pisgah, who is left to mourn his untimely death., besides his young wife he leaves a sister, Mrs. R.L. Knudsen of Moorhead and a half brother Charley Conyers of Hooper, Nebr.

To say that Fred will be missed is a mild way of putting it, the loss his friends will feel in his death. Rarely is a young man so loved by all who knew him. He was nenver too indisposed to help anyone in trouble. The love and thoughtfulness with which he surrounded his mother those years she made her home with him have let a memory which will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him. We extend to the young wife, his sister, and other relatives our deepest sympathy and to remind them that Fred’s life was so pure that we know he dwells with Him “Who doeth all things well.”

The funeral services were held Tuesday March 11, by Elder Joseph Lane from the L.D.S. Church at Pisgah and he was laid to rest in the final resting place in Preparation Cemetery.

He is gone but not forgotten
There will be a vacant chair
But we know he rests in Jesus
To await our coming there

--A.L.M
