dated February 12, 2004:ONAWA, Iowa -- Wilbur Eugene Melby, 70, of Onawa died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa. Burial will be in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
Mr. Melby was born Nov. 20, 1933, on a farm near Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Christina (Lundberg) Melby. He was one of nine children. He attended Moorhead schools through the 10th grade, then left to serve as an apprenticeship as a bricklayer in New Jersey. He continued to be a bricklayer until his retirement. He had lived in the Moorhead and Pisgah, Iowa area until moving to Onawa a few years ago.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Jeff and Kris Melby of Lino Lake, Minn., two daughters and their husbands, Lory and Gary Power of McCook, Neb., and Dawn and Clark Andrews of Holbrook, Neb., 10 grandchildren Arend, Emily and Anders Melby, Jeremy Bryant, Tom and Dylan Power, Brandon, Jared, Seth and Abigail Andrews; a great-granddaughter, Ariana Bryant; a brother, Clark Melby of Dunlap, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Olga and Ella Schlensig; and five brothers, Harry, Robert, Norman, Raymond and Earl.
